Responsible E-Bike/E-Scooter Use & School Grounds
Dear FPS Families,
As we approach the new school year, we want to remind everyone about the importance of safe and responsible e-bike/e-scooter use on and around school grounds. A few weeks ago, we shared an important safety message about e-bikes, and we ask for your partnership in speaking with your child(ren) about safe riding practices, including:
- Always wearing a properly fitted helmet.
- Following all traffic laws and signals.
- Riding at safe speeds and being mindful of pedestrians.
Additionally, this summer, e-bikes have caused damage to sports fields, grassy areas, and other parts of school grounds. If your child plans to ride an e-bike to school, it must be parked in the designated bike racks. E-bikes are strictly prohibited from being ridden anywhere else on school property including playgrounds, sports fields, grassy areas, or any other non-designated riding areas.
Any student found using an e-bike irresponsibly or in violation of traffic laws will face school discipline and will be referred to the Fairfield Police Department.
Let’s work together to ensure our students arrive safely to and from school each day, and that the bikes they ride are appropriate for their age and skill level. Your cooperation helps keep our school community safe.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Testani
Fairfield Superintendent of Schools
