A Message From Superintendent Michael J. Testani - Social Media Safety

December 15, 2022

Hello Fairfield Public Schools,

The Fairfield Public Schools has recently become aware of troubling posts that have been shared widely on the social media platforms by students. These posts often refer to a threat to school safety and security.

While these threats have been found not to be credible, we carefully monitor each report and take all reports seriously. The district will continue to work closely with the Fairfield Police Department regarding all suspicious social media posts. The district will continue to notify families when we are made aware of any potential threats made against one of our schools. These notifications are not intended to alarm families but to be transparent with our entire school community. In some cases, we may have an increased police presence in our buildings as an added precaution.

These situations serve as good examples of why it is important to avoid sharing posts online that refer to school safety threats. Even if they are not credible threats, they can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff.  We ask our families to monitor their children’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online.

As always, thank you for your partnership as we work to ensure a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for our students.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Testani

Superintendent of Schools
