Snow Day Information

December 3, 2021

Dear FPS Families and Staff,

Now that we have seen the first few snowflakes, I know some of you are asking “How will snow days be handled this year?” For the 2021-22 school year, weather-related school closings will be a day off from school. The Connecticut State Department of Education will not allow remote learning for weather-related days. Each weather-related school closing will add an additional day to the end of the school calendar.

Please know there is a lot of work done behind the scenes that factor into the decision of calling a weather-related school closing with the safety of all students and staff as the priority. Some of those steps include:

  • Consult with local area meteorologist who specializes in municipal and school weather related decisions
  • Consult with the Fairfield Department of Public Works and the Fairfield Police Department about road conditions and potential power outages
  • Discussions with central office administration on the conditions of our school campuses and assessment of level of safety for staff and students, along with the need to modify schedules as appropriate.
  • Phone conference with local area Superintendents to discuss opening/closing and delays being considered

When a delay/early dismissal/closure is decided upon, we will push out information to you via Infinite Campus, and post it to our district website (fairfieldschools.org). We also share the information with local television/radio stations. As always, please be certain your contact information is current in Infinite Campus to ensure you receive all district information, including weather-related closings/delays.

School hours for delays/early dismissals are posted here School Hours 2021 - 2022 and on the calendar page of the district website.

Take care,

Mike
