Superintendent's Message Fall 2021 Safe Return Plan UPDATE
May 27, 2021
Good morning,
As a follow-up to our earlier communication, the purpose of posting the Safe Return Plan is specifically to gather feedback from all members of the FPS community. The plan format and timeline for posting is dictated by the State Department of Education (CSDE) as part of the requirements to receive federal grant funds. Further, CSDE has directed that at this time, plans for the fall must reflect the current mitigation requirements, which include masks.
We hear loud and clear that many are unhappy at the thought of students and staff having to wear masks in the fall. We don't like the idea either and are hopeful that come September the guidance will be updated.
As of May 20, 2021, the Department of Public Health has specifically stated "All people (vaccinated or unvaccinated) need to wear a mask when they are inside a school building (pre-K–1 2) or childcare facility."
For now, this is a requirement, not a choice.
We appreciate your participation in this process and will continue to reach out to the community for input as we develop the plans further.
Thank you.
Mike
