Superintendent's Message August 19, 2021 (Updated)

Update: August 19, 2021

Good afternoon

I am emailing with further information on the testing of several of our schools’ fields.

All of the sites listed were previously screened and tested and there was no remediation required. However, according to the consent order, which is the town’s agreement with the environmental regulatory agencies (Connecticut DEEP) regarding all Julian fill, final testing protocols have to occur in order to remove these sites from the list.

We will keep the public advised as we complete the tests.

August 18, 2021

Good afternoon

The Town of Fairfield, working in conjunction with the Licensed Environmental Professional firm Tighe & Bond, have identified additional testing sites around town for possible contaminated materials.  As part of this effort, the following school sites will be included:

Burr Elementary

Fairfield Woods Middle School

Jennings Elementary

Mill Hill

North Stratfield

Testing is targeted for next week before the return of students. We have posted maps of the areas around each school where sampling will occur at:

https://www.fairfieldschools.org/departments/operations/field-testing-updates.

The test results from each of these sites will be posted on this same webpage once they have been completed, reviewed by the town and when a decision is made if remediation is needed.  Any areas identified for remediation will be closed until work is completed. We will work to complete tests and provide information as quickly as possible.

Information is also available at: http://fairfieldct.org/filluseissues.

We will keep you informed as we learn more.  Please bear in mind that right now this work is being done to determine if there are concerns that need follow up.
