Return to School Information

Dear FPS Parents, Guardians and Staff:

Happy New Year.  I hope that you and your families were able to enjoy the holidays and I know we are all looking forward to a fresh start to the year.  That said, we are mindful of the ongoing pandemic and the need to continue observing the mitigation measures that have worked so well for us to date.

We look forward to welcoming back students on January 4. The January 2021 cohort calendar shows which cohort is scheduled to attend in-person each day at each level.  It also contains links to the new Wednesday schedules for high and middle school students.

Please help ensure a safe return to school for all our students and staff:

  • If you traveled  over Winter Break, you must quarantine for a 10-day period from the time of last contact within the identified state or country. You may test out of travel quarantine 72 hours prior to leaving the travel destination or upon arrival in CT. All test results and other documentation must still be submitted to the state.  Please refer to the Winter Break Travel Advisory for more information.
  • Stay home if you are waiting for test results, have been in close contact with a positive case, or have any symptoms on the daily checklist.
  • If you are unsure about whether to send your child to school, please check with your school nurse before sending your child.

As a reminder, going forward, close contacts of a known positive case who are asymptomatic may quarantine for 10 days (instead of 14).  Please read our New COVID-19 Quarantine Guidance (12/22/20) carefully, as you must continue monitoring symptoms and following mitigation strategies beyond the 10 day quarantine period.

If you are notified of being a close contact, you will get more information about quarantine from the school nurse and/or a member of the Fairfield Health Department Contact Tracing Team.  We have updated the FPS COVID-19 Family and Staff Protocols, which includes information about travel and return to school following Winter Break.

Please call your school nurse with any questions.  We appreciate your continued understanding and patience during this difficult time.

Respectfully,

Mike Cummings

FPS Superintendent
