Information Regarding FPS Grading Policy and Subcommittees 

 

Dear FPS Families, 

Every day, our students work hard to master the skills needed for a successful future, and clear grading feedback is a crucial part of that journey. To ensure our practices are fair and supportive, the Fairfield Board of Education (BOE) Policy Committee tasked the district with reviewing weighted grades and grading regulations for middle and high school. Based on these recommendations, the Policy Committee will draft a revised grading policy to be voted on by the BOE, targeted for implementation in the 2027–2028 school year. 

To complete this task, the district formed two subcommittees comprising BOE members, district administrators, teachers, and parents, who have been collaborating since last spring. 

  • GPA Scale Committee: Focuses on weighted grades and GPA practices. The team analyzed models from 12 school districts, surveyed multiple postsecondary institutions, and met with Fairfield University's Director of Undergraduate Admissions to better understand how colleges evaluate high school transcripts, honors, AP courses, and school profiles. 

  • Grading Regulations Committee: Focuses on analyzing day-to-day grading guidelines. Their work addresses clear communication with families, grade posting timelines, expectations for reassessments, zero policies, and making up missed work.
