Get To Know Your SRO: Tiffanie Bennett
Number of years serving as SRO in Fairfield: Officer Bennett has served as a Fairfield SRO for three years. She has been a police officer for 25 years.
Fairfield Schools: Officer Bennett serves as SRO at Mill Hill School, Burr School, Timothy Dwight School and Walter Fitzgerald Campus.
How do you build strong relationships with your students?: When I was growing up I still remember the DARE program. I love having SHAPE classes with students and navigating challenges. Some kids have never had an interaction with a police officer and this classroom time provides us with the ability to build trust. On the flip side, some kids have had a negative experience with police coming to their house. This time in school gives us the ability to earn their trust.
Kids tend to know that you don’t give your name and address online, but there are ways for people to get other information over time such as what sports you play or your school mascot. Child predators can put two and two together. The key is, if it isn’t related to the game do not answer the question. Talk to your kids about this.

What advice do you have for parents about online safety?: Many parents recognize the dangers of social media, but students are also spending time gaming, playing Roblox and Fortnite or Minecraft. One of the things we talk about in class is how kids may have a false sense of security behind their game consoles. Over months and months children can be manipulated by child predators to share personal information. My advice to parents would be to play the game for a while. Get to know the capabilities. Also, YouTube has quick safety guides for popular games where you can learn everything you need to know and look out for.

Fairfield High School Students Connect With History And Hope Through Music
Fairfield Ludlowe High School and Fairfield Warde High School students were invited to play very special instruments from the Violins of Hope collection. These instruments were owned and played by Jews before and during the Holocaust and have been carefully restored over the years by Violin-maker Avi Weinstein and his father.
Social studies and music class students participated in the assembly which included a history on the Holocaust and insight into the hope and light that music offered to so many during WWII.
Student Contest Opportunity: The Connecticut Writing Project
The Connecticut Writing Project (CWP) sponsors a magazine founded in 1987 to celebrate exceptional writing by students from K-12.
The magazine offers students a platform to showcase their original work in poetry, prose, and artwork. Each year, more than 1,500 students submit entries, and from this large pool of poetry, essays, stories, drama, and artwork, select pieces are chosen for publication or recognition at each grade level. For submission guidelines and the parent/guardian permission form click here. Deadline to submit is February 17, 2025.

The curriculum office invites you to send us your comments and suggestions on the documents by submitting this form by December 4, 2024. 2025-26 Kindergarten Admission Update
Is your child going to turn five between September 2, 2025, and December 31, 2025? If so, they will only be eligible to enter kindergarten during the 2026-27 school year or if you apply for an early admissions waiver. Information on an early admissions waiver can be found here under Kindergarten 2025-2026.
Parents will need to follow this process to request an early admissions waiver:
- Complete this form in its entirety, which includes a parent observational checklist, selection of a preferred assessment date, submission of a parent letter acknowledging that your child is developmentally appropriate to attend kindergarten early, and acknowledgment of individual testing and results.
Upon submission of the above form, a member of Fairfield Public Schools will be in contact with you to confirm testing dates and times. Each child will be assessed by FPS certified staff, at a designated elementary school, using an individually administered assessment and observation protocol. Only one assessment per child will be administered and the decision on early admissions made by the Fairfield Public Schools is final.
Children who will be five on or by September 1, 2025, will have typical enrollment. The typical registration and enrollment process will begin in January 2025.
If you have any questions, please contact James Zavodjancik, Chief Academic Officer, at JZavodjancik@fairfieldschools.org or 203-255-8390
