School Budget Vote – May 5, 2025
On May 5, the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) will vote on the proposed $233 million Board of Education budget for 2025–2026, which reflects a 5.82% increase. This budget reflects a careful balance—investing in what matters most: our students, our teachers, and our classrooms, while also being mindful of operational efficiencies.
We know this is a significant request, and we’re working closely with the town to help close the $1.9 million gap between our request and the current funding level. Thanks to this collaboration, nearly $1 million in infrastructure costs can be bonded, reducing the gap to about $950,000.
If further reductions are made by the RTM, the gap will widen, and unfortunately, that could mean scaling back programs. Once the budget is finalized, the Board of Education will meet to thoughtfully adjust as needed.
We’re incredibly thankful for the support of our community and town leaders. Your partnership makes it possible to give our students the high-quality education they deserve!
Recognizing Our Inspiring School Leaders
Today is Principal Appreciation Day! Let’s take a moment to recognize and thank our incredible FPS principals for their tireless efforts in supporting our students, staff, and families. Their unwavering dedication, strong leadership, and deep commitment to our community play a vital role in fostering high-quality learning and ensuring the success of both students and staff.
Turning Trash Into Change: Earth Day With kYhal
North Stratfield students had the honor of welcoming local artist, environmental educator, writer, and activist kYhal to celebrate Earth Day!
kYhal is known for her unique focus on horseshoe crabs, plastic pollution in the Long Island Sound and beyond, and her inspiring message of positive global change. She also runs the only plastic horse rescue—turning discarded toys into powerful art installations that tell stories of our planet and our impact on it.
Her visit left students inspired to think creatively about environmental action.
Preparing Students For Safe Choices: Annual Mock Crash Events Underway
Each year, high school juniors attend a pre-prom Mock Crash presentation to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving. These impactful events take place in the parking lot areas of each high school and involve the Fairfield Police Department, Fire Department, AMR, Bridgeport Hospital, Lesko Funeral Home, AAA, and student volunteers who help reenact a crash scene.
The Mock Crash at Fairfield Ludlowe High School was held this week. Please note that the Fairfield Warde High School presentation is scheduled for Friday, May 2, outside of the school. We want to make the community aware in advance so that anyone driving by is not alarmed by the presence of emergency vehicles and the staged crash scene.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we offer this important and powerful learning experience to our students.
In honor of Earth Day, Tomlinson Middle School students planted sunflowers hydroponic style using rock wool. Students will grow them at home, and then transplant the flowers into soil when big enough.
Device Usage Survey - Your Opinion Matters
Fairfield Public Schools is conducting a survey to better understand how students use digital devices both at home and in school. This survey will provide valuable insight into device access, usage patterns, and your perspectives on technology in education.
The survey asks questions about your child's device access at home, school Chromebook usage, cell phone habits, and your thoughts on communication and the benefits of technology in education. Your responses will help inform our district's technology policies and identify areas where additional support may be needed.
Please complete the survey by May 16th. The survey should take approximately 5-10 minutes.

A similar survey has also be provided to grade 6 through 12 students to gather their perspectives.
Thank you for your participation and continued support of Fairfield Public Schools!
Orchestrated by Teacher Trisha Pytko, students and staff at the Walter Fitzgerald Campus held a "Thank you" Tea Celebration for community members and organizations who provided grants for projects, supplies, and donations throughout the year. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to this special event.
A group of 52 students from FLHS and FWHS in the pre-business and pre-nursing high school pathways visited Sacred Heart University. They explored the campus, attended an admissions presentation, and took part in hands-on, career-focused activities. A great day for future leaders in business and healthcare!
Registration Office: New Address Reminder
A friendly reminder that the district requires families to notify the Registration Office at 203-255-8242 when there has been an address change.
You will need to provide your new address and documents to verify this information. The new address will then be updated in Infinite Campus by the Registrar, ensuring that your child has proper access to bus service if applicable, and any school mailings will be able to be sent to the proper address. Please note: addresses cannot be updated by parents/guardians in the parent portal. Visit our website for more information.
The FPS Technology Department has designed a webpage to help you navigate the challenges of managing your child's internet usage at home. This resource provides comprehensive information on tools and strategies to create a safer online environment for your children.
Dwight 4th Graders Set Sail for Earth Day Learning Adventure!
Dwight School 4th graders took their learning outdoors—with a hands-on educational experience on the Long Island Sound, hosted by the incredible team at SoundWaters.
Students boarded a teaching vessel where they became young marine scientists for the day. They worked together to raise the sails, explored the unique ecosystem of the Long Island Sound, and learned how water salinity and temperature affect marine life. Along the way, they collected and analyzed scientific data, gaining a deeper understanding of environmental science and teamwork in action.
This memorable field trip not only deepened their appreciation for our local waterways but also inspired a sense of responsibility to protect our planet.
Ludlowe students and staff joined together for a Cultural Day Fair complete with dancing, delicious food, and displays from around the world. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event so vibrant and memorable.
