Just a few quick note today to recap two items and give one shout out –
There is a professional development day for staff this Friday, April 3. There are no classes this day.
We are taking April break as a full week. I have had several emails expressing concerns that students will miss the structure of online learning. This is a fair concern and I will address this in more detail tomorrow. Another concern has been the worry that students will leave the house to meet up with friends despite the restrictions on such behavior. That is preventable if parents and family members stand together as a community to stop it. Ms. Kupchick has been very clear and very consistent in her messaging around these issues. When the weather improves, and school is back in session, that temptation will still be in place. The Fairfield Public Schools stand beside you, but we cannot stand in your place. We will continue to provide resources to support you and your children. We want everyone healthy and well.
To our custodial and maintenance staff for their ongoing efforts to keep our buildings safe in these most difficult times. In the best of times their work is always appreciated and when it is done well, often will go unnoticed. Now, they are on the front lines working to keep the IT and food services staff safe every day. Please keep them in your thoughts and when you see them again, please thank them in person.
Please take care and stay well,
Superintendent of Schools
