I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health.
Many of our staff have spent the last four days preparing for tomorrow. Teachers and administrators have increased their technology skills, reconceived lessons, and collaborated with each other out of their strong sense of responsibility for their students and for each other. Our teachers are eager to be with their students again. From the feedback I have received, our community is rightfully proud of this work. I wish everyone the best tomorrow as we go forward and continue our learning.
A few other notes –
Our waiver request to have the distance learning days count towards the state’s 180-day requirement was approved.
Technology – Updated information below
On Friday, we sent you the following information about technical support:
If students are having technical issues with their district supplied devices the first step is to email email@example.com. If the issue cannot be addressed remotely, the same two schools (RLMS and McKinley) will serve as tech centers for students. If students are having technical issues with their district issued devices they can be brought in for service at those locations. In addition, if students are having any difficulty logging on to Wi-Fi, the computer labs at those schools will be open to support them. A green sign will indicate that entrance.
Please note that IT services are available between 11 am and 1 pm at the two schools.
We are temporarily out of the hot spots we provide families for Wi-Fi. However, parents without home Internet can get free Wi-Fi from Optimum for up to 60 days. See the attached link. https://www.alticeusa.com/news/articles/feature/corporate/altice-usa-brings-free-broadband-k-12-and-college-students-during-coronavirus-pandemic
In addition, all Wi-Fi hotspots that Optimum supports are open for all.
Beginning tomorrow all Fairfield Public School fields will be closed for use. All town fields and beaches will also be closed.
Thank you and take care,
Superintendent of Schools
