Happy Passover to all who are celebrating this evening.
Lynn Holcomb, Program Director for PK-5 English/Language Arts, and Walter Wakeman, Program Director for Elementary Math and Science, have compiled a list of ideas and projects for students to participate in over April break. These are optional activities. I want to thank them for this work. You can find the list of ideas here - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OVdFqLUkljvDJhJsDNZN4zOXn180QVzK489lEjkIsUI/edit
A quick internet search will identify additional opportunities for your children.
For students taking high school level courses –
- Final Exams – Traditional final exams will not be possible this year. The length of time outside of school impacts our ability to deliver the curricular content to all students and to assess students using traditional methods. Teachers within each department are determining how much course content can be covered in the remainder of the year. This work will continue after April break.
- These culminating tasks will be included within Term 4 as part of the students’ cumulative grade for the year. The 20% “Final Exam” category in IC will not be used this year, resulting in the cumulative grade calculating as 100% of the students’ final mark.
- We are still discussing the best method for reporting student performance for the full-year cumulative grades (letter grades, pass/ fail, some type of student choice). We need to consider the duration of distance learning and how the virus impacts our community in order to make the most informed decision. We do not expect to decide on this until early to mid-May. More information on this will be sent after April break.
A reminder that food service will not operate on Friday but meals for Friday, and the weekend, can be picked up tomorrow between 8 am and 1 pm at McKinley, Holland Hill, and Roger Ludlowe Middle School. Food service will operate in those same hours and at those same locations next week during the break.
Tomorrow I hope to have an update, from the state, on the projected date for return to school.
Take care and stay well, Mike
