What is ARP ESSER?

ARP stand for American Rescue Plan.

ESSER stands for Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.

Under the ESSER relief fund, the US Department of Education awards grants to State Educational Agencies (SEAs) for the purpose of providing Local Education Agencies (LEAs), like Fairfield Public Schools, with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have on elementary and secondary schools across the nation.

An initial draft of the Safe Return Plan was posted on the FPS website on 5/25/21 along with a link for feedback and input. The plan has been revised to reflect public comment and incorporate the CSDE template.

Public comment centered on the need for updated guidance regarding mitigation strategies to reflect the current lifting of restriction for adults in the state, as well as the current high vaccination rate and low infection rate in our community. There is a clear desire for our schools to "return to normal" come fall 2021.

We expect to update the current plan prior to the start of the 21-22 school year based on the most current CDC guidance and the Connecticut DPH and CSDE guidance.
