Special English by Voice of America
Great resource of adapted English.  Stories with complete text.   Many include streaming audio.  (RLMS use Real Player)   It is written in clear and simple English for people whose native language is not English.  It has a core vocabulary of 1500 words.  Most are simple words that describe objects, actions or emotions.  See  Highlights for a list of programs that support our curriculum.

LMC Resources and Services -- We offer:

Books: picture books that support the content areas English  History  Science  Math

Books: High interest / low vocabulary fiction and non-fiction.  Grade 3-6 range.

Audio:  We have 100s of audio books.  Pair them with print.  We also loan personal CD and cassette players.

Smart Readers:  Level One is 1st and 2nd grade.  Level Two is 3rd and 4th grade.  Short audio and book kits feature two tape speeds.  Excellent Teacher Guides.  Many kits include 6 copies of the texts.

Real Deal:  Non-fiction High Interest Low Vocabulary audio and texts.  See LMC staff for teaching guides.

Equipment:  Cassette and CD players, individual headphones and headphone kits that permit several students to listen to a single source. 
Headphone kits for lab use.

Textbook audios:  In some cases, we can load the audio version of your textbook on to a computer in your classroom.  Note:  there my be copyright restrictions.

iPods for class use:  Use prerecorded videos, podcasts, or create your own!  Contact Jen for more information.

Rosetta Stone Software:  Two computers are equipped with this multi-media program for ESL students.  It would also be useful for developing readers.

Include us in you unit planning.  We can support differentiated learning by locating alternate titles and web resources.  Note: Purchases take several weeks.
